Defend Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh!

The assaults of the so-called Syrian government, the illegitimate regime of Abu Muhammad al Jolani, on peoples in Syria continue. Following a series of brutal secterian massacres on 'Alawi and Druze communities, the jihadi groups that have been whitewashed and legitimized by the international community of states since the fall of Bashar al Assad are now targeting the Kurdish neighbourhoods of Aleppo.

The ongoing military assault has led to the ongoing killing and forced displacement of civilians. The regime is threatening further assaults.

The Kurdish people, who have fought reactionary fascists groups like Daesh, al Qaeda, and their incarnations for many years, are now mobilizing once again to defend their homes and lives in the face of military assaults.

There is no doubt: the Jolani regime is illegitimate. It was put into power in a series of imperialist interventions following the fall of the Assad dictatorship in December 2024. It is imposed on the Syrian peoples as a "new government". Equating this orchestrated regime change operation with the term "revolution" is an insult on all freedom-loving people in the world, past and present.

This regime, supported by several global and regional powers, is establishing itself through violence and impunity.

It does not and cannot represent the colorful nature of Syria, a country that is beautiful with all its colors - all peoples, languages, faiths, and ways of life.

As women, we will never accept this nightmare as a status quo.

Just like the sectarian massacres on 'Alawis and Druze, a military assault on Kurdish communities is an assault on all peoples in the region - backed by states that embellish themselves with human rights discourse.

The peoples of the world are not condemned to a life in war and violence. For the past two years, the world has been witnessing  the western-backed Israeli genocide on the Palestinian people. Meanwhile, horrifying wars are raging in Sudan and Congo and many other places, causing irreparable destruction on life. Everywhere, women are particularly targeted by armed groups, who use the impunity of war to rape and abduct women and children.

Forcing people to surrender to a life between annihilation or submission will never work, as long as there is organized resistance.

The people in these Aleppo neighborhoods have a long history of struggle. More than a decade ago, Kurdish communities in Sheikh Meqsud and Ashrafiyeh began to organize their own system and self-defense, protecting the people also against the foreign jihadists flooding the country. Women and men of all ages are committed to protect their homes from invasion.

As the Network Women Weaving the Future, we call on everyone to mobilize in solidarity with the Kurdish neighborhoods under siege!

We urge everyone to stand with all of the communities - 'Alawis, Druze, Kurds, Christians - that are targeted by the reactionary contra forces brought to power by external powers who want to colonize and redesign the region according to their interests.

We stand firmly against this patriarchal pact and call on everyone to expose these forces for what they are: an extension of Daesh and Al Qaeda, the brothers of the Taliban, the friends of all of the colonial special forces that have looted and destroyed the homes of indigenous peoples, past and present.

We call on all women and all internationalists, movements, and democratic forces to raise their voices and defend the revolutionary neighborhoods.

Defend life against the forces of death. Stand with the peoples of Kurdistan and Syria against fascism, rape culture, and imperialist and colonial warmongering!
