What we want

Across the world, women face systemic oppression—political, economic, and social. Patriarchal and capitalist structures restrict our rights, limit our autonomy, and deepen inequalities. Wars, environmental destruction, and economic crises hit women the hardest, exacerbating existing injustices.

We are not satisfied with the solutions offered to us by the capitalist system. We defend life by organizing ourselves!

Against this system of violence and devastation, the Network Women Weaving the Future is a call to proactively organize, to stand in solidarity, and to resist together for a completely different world, for a free life!

Inspired by feminist and autonomous women’s movements worldwide, past and present, we seek to create spaces to shape our own futures and to build and coordinate common struggle.

Through coordination, we build collective strength across contexts and organize actions to confront and dismantle the brutality of the current world-system. In doing so, we aim to strengthen local, regional or issues-focused struggles on the ground.

Our duty is to organize, autonomously, from below, the internationalist struggle for a free and just world without domination and oppression, by weaving the fabric of liberation—strong and with all our colors!

On this homepage, we present the history and vision of our network, as well as our actions. It is a space to present the diverse struggles that are part of the creative process of weaving our future.

The Network is not re-inventing the wheel. Rather, it builds on the long and rich legacy of revolutionary, socialist, proletarian, anti-colonial, and feminist internationalism worldwide. It considers all past experiences as part of its heritage. Moreover, the growth and transformations that women’s movements around the world have undergone in recent years are a major source of hope and strength that we can build on.

At the same time, in the spirit of self-criticism, we must acknowledge that the implementation and sustainability of international efforts have never been without challenges. Class-based hierarchies, racism, colonial and liberal attitudes, and ideological contradictions have at times led to exclusion, fragmentation, or the perpetuation of power even within our movements that seek unity.

Nevertheless, perhaps precisely due to this, the experiences and lessons from past efforts offer invaluable insights into how we can continue to build stronger, more inclusive and sustainable networks of common struggle in the here and now and for the future.

We believe that by getting to know each other, we can understand our commonalities, build trust, and fight together, strengthening and uniting struggles for a different world.

Our horizon is revolution!

How we started

Our vision is built on decades and even centuries of struggle against patriarchy, capitalism, imperialism, and colonialism. It particularly draws from self-governing women’s structures based on the principles of Democratic Confederalism—organizing beyond the state, beyond hierarchy.

In 2018, the revolutionary Kurdish Women’s Movement officially opened the idea of World Women’s Democratic Confederalism, which it had until then developed within its own context, to wider discussion. It initiated the Network Women Weaving the Future for this purpose.

Based on decades of revolutionary grassroots and internationalist organizing work, the Network was formed with the participation of women’s movements from Abya Yala, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. Initially, it focused on discovering commonalities in the struggles of women from different regions, countries, histories and cultures and developing methods for sharing experiences.

In this context, two international conferences were organized. At these conferences, women from different territories discussed the struggle to build free life on a global scale, shared their experiences, and proposed common strategies. These big conferences lead to the conclusion that we need a network to practically organize common struggle though developing strong ties, coordination, and joint actions - beyond symbolic moments of solidarity.

Since these conferences, there has been an active and creative effort to lay the foundations of World Women’s Democratic Confederalism.

Rather than aspiring to build one monolithic system or structure everywhere, we aim to build and link interconnected networks that dynamically strengthen struggles globally while preserving the autonomy of each movement. For that, we need strong, resilient organization—but not rigid structures that reproduce power and hierarchy.

In that sense, we are at the very beginning of a long-term process - a path that we can only walk together with the participation of different struggles, through unity in diversity.

What we do

  • We organize local and regional gatherings, meetings, and conferences with different groups to get to know each other and develop shared perspectives and actions for common struggle beyond borders. These range from territory-based struggles to focused issues like feminicide or war.

  • Currently, we are organizing our first women’s conference in Abya Yala, which many also know as Latin America. Here you can find out more about this conference.

  • We organize seminars and other education activities where we bring together women from different collectives, realities, organizations and movements with the aim to discuss and implement the proposal of World Women's Democratic Confederalism and to share about our different struggles and experiences.

  • We develop multi-media material for collective political education, seeking to amplify and connect existing struggles. You can watch our past online events on our YouTube channel.

  • We collaborate with other networks, organizations and movements and take part in their processes, conferences and actions.
